Chromebooks for Learning

Technology is the language of the twenty-first century. It is essential that every Ricards and RR6 student leaves school with the digital literacy skills required to meet the challenges of tomorrow.

The strategic use of technology in education provides unparalleled opportunities to level the playing field for disadvantaged pupils, and empowers every student to take the lead over their education.

Access to tech is no longer about simply getting online, using email or conducting research. It is a tool for collaboration, creativity, critical thinking and communication, where digital technology is used for developing resilient and innovative learners, who are creators, not just consumers.

One to one simply means a device for every student in the school.

One to one allows students to move digital access out of the ICT suite and directly into the hands of each individual learner so they are empowered to achieve more.

The Chromebook becomes an extension of the pencil case and a valuable learning tool. A one-to-one solution provides the following benefits for students/parents:

Chromebooks are simple, secure and safe devices that students can use to learn, explore, create and collaborate on with their teachers and their peers.

We believe Chromebooks can make learning more effective and engaging and will enable our pupils to become well informed, responsible digital citizens and lifelong learners. Chromebooks have an amazing potential to change the way students and teachers interact and learn.

The majority of our feeder primary schools are using Google for Education and students will have experience with using Chromebooks in these settings already.

Simply put, Google for Education in combination with Chromebooks makes it easier to manage tasks that involve rich student creation, collaboration, iteration, and timely feedback — essential ingredients for powerful learning at any age.

We are delighted to inform you that we are able to continue to offer our Chromebook's for learning programme with Year 7 for the 2022/23 academic year.

Each year we extensively research devices from various suppliers to ensure that we can offer the best value for money and longevity of usage throughout your child’s time at our school.

This process has been more difficult this year due to the current chip shortages and geopolitical situation but we are confident that we have found the most robust and suitable device for your child.

We only choose one device to ensure students all have the same experience. Whilst price is a large factor in determining our choice, we do not want to compromise on build quality and performance.

The device we have selected is the Lenovo 500e, 2nd generation. This device is engineered for durability. Built tough with rubber bumpers, reinforced ports and hinges, and mechanically anchored keys, built for the rough and tumble of school life.
