Welcome Message from Assistant Principal – Pastoral
[vc_row][vc_column width=”5/6″][vc_column_text el_class=”list_type”]“Education is what survives when what has been learned has been forgotten.”
– B.F. Skinner
At ASCS, we believe in igniting the curiosity of our learners. Following the principles of Progressive Education, we foster a culture and create an environment where –
- School is a place of excitement and loved by learners. Learning is driven by an intrinsic motivation of a joy for learning.
- Learners are active participants, problem solvers, and critical thinkers. They have ownership of their learning.
- Learners have the opportunity to learn from their surroundings and peers via collaborative and cooperative learning.
- Teachers are facilitators who foster thinking and create experiential learning opportunities.
- Highly personalized learning accounting for each individual’s starting points and goals.
- Instructions are spiraled, where learners expand their knowledge and improve their skill level each time a topic/subject is reviewed or encountered.
- Every discipline taught is integrated as learners make connections to the real world and apply their learning.
- The ‘process’ is valued by the creation of the product via our learning showcases.
We are conscious and aware of the fact that future jobs will pair computer intelligence with human knowledge, skills, character qualities and values, one’s capacity for innovation, awareness, ethical judgement and one’s sense of responsibility that will equip them to shape the world into a better place.
As we prepare our learners to be global citizens of the future and ‘agents of change’, we stay dedicated and focused in our passion for Education!
Key Stage 2
At ASCS, we have a strong belief that primary-age children should have real breadth and balance within their learning. All children should have the opportunity to experience a range of subjects and activities, so that all can find their talent, passion and success.
The United Arab Emirates – celebrate where we live
At the heart of our curriculum is a real connection with the United Arab Emirates. We have much to celebrate about where we live, and we believe our children should build their knowledge and understanding of the United Arab Emirates as they progress throughout our schools.
Learning Showcase Projects
In continuity from Key Stage 1, the learning showcase is a key component to assess the progress and attainment of students. Learning Showcases are rich learning tasks that require the integration of learning in both group and independent work. Students use their knowledge and skills to create a project, based on their given success criteria assigned by each teacher.
Digital learning – Google Chromebooks
All through primary school, students at ASCS are being prepared to use technology within their classroom by using different applications and studying ICT as a stand alone subject. When students reach Year 4 their chromebook devices become an important part of the diverse resources they utilize to enrich and extend their learning. As a Google for Education Reference School,we ensure that safe and ‘child friendly’ devices can be obtained directly from school by parents.
Using a Chromebook allows for an increase in engagement in learning, and makes online learning flexible and portable. This allows students to both work alone and in collaboration in classrooms. Additionally, Chromebooks continually allow students the chance to experience and sharpen their knowledge of how technology works, and how it can be used for everything from a simple home learning task assignment to a learning showcase.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/6″][vc_single_image image=”3477″ img_size=”full” alignment=”center” css=”.vc_custom_1641192512011{margin-bottom: 0px !important;padding-bottom: 0px !important;}”][vc_column_text]Rachael Vaz
